Two people have been killed in two separate shooting incidents at Drobonso and Agogo in the Ashanti Region in what is believed to be a reprisal attack by nomadic cattle herders.
One of the victims, 25-year-old Abdul Latif, was allegedly shot at close range with a single barrel gun.
He was killed near David Akuraa between Sekyere Afram Plains and Agogo while returning from a funeral at Kyekyebon.
Though he survived the attack, he later died on the way while being conveyed to the hospital on a motorbike after informing residents of who his attackers were.
Reports say some angry residents of Afirisre from Agogo Central District later shot an unidentified man believed to be a nomad at Akokoyintare in the Sekyere Afram Plains District.
The locals attacked the herdsman following suspicion that the death of a farmer was caused by nomadic herdsmen.
Checks by Nhyira News have revealed that members of the Operation Cowleg team - a police task force formed to clamp down on unruly nomads - received distress calls from residents about the shooting.
When the taskforce arrived at the scene, the shooting had stopped. They conveyed the body of Latif to the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital mortuary.
The leader of the team, ASP Edmond Jones Afutu, however, declined comment on the issue.
District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Fuseini Donkor, who confirmed the second attack says police are on alert following the attack.
Nomadic herdsmen, most of them believed to be Fulanis, have been clashing with farmers and other locals in Ashanti and Eastern regions for some time now.
The locals and farmers have blamed the nomads for allowing their animals to graze too close to their farms and destroying both food and cash crops in the process.
