Two New Patriotic Party presidential candidate aspirants have picked up forms to contest the position for the 2012 elections.General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has told Joy News that Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Head of the Cadiothoracic Centre at Korle Bu was the first to pick up his form on Friday. He was followed by a lawyer, Kwame Kodua whose ambitions of becoming a president dated back to 1992.Mr Kodua was said to have contested the party’s flagbearer position in 1992 but lost to Prof Adu Boahene in the presidential primaries. He later contested in 1998 and again lost to Mr JA Kufuor. The Kumasi based lawyer reckons 2010 may just be his year to win the party’s slot and hopefully wrestle power from the National Democratic Congress.Touting his political credentials in an interview with Joy News, Mr Kodua said he has been at the front-line of the Dankwa Busia tradition since 1979.His competitor, at least for now, Prof Frimpong Boateng, also contested the position with 16 others in 2007 but failed to make any impression.More than five potential aspirants have expressed interest to vie for the position but are yet to buy the GH¢25,000 forms. The General Secretary of the party said an electoral college will be constituted to vet and prune the number down to five before the national congress will be held on August 7, 2010.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
