The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the arrest of two suspects, Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, who were previously declared wanted for their alleged involvement in a gold smuggling syndicate.
According to a statement from GoldBod, the suspects voluntarily turned themselves in and have since been arraigned before the High Court to face charges including gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold, and transporting gold without a licence, among others.
The court has granted them bail; however, they remain in lawful custody pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions and the continuation of legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, Mohammed Afsal Puthalan and Mohammed Refeeq Nandoli, also known as Salam, are still on the run. GoldBod is appealing to the public to assist the Ghana Police Service with any information that could lead to their arrest.
A bounty of One Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000,000) remains active for credible information resulting in the capture of each fugitive.
