A circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani on Thursday sentenced Akwasi Addai, also known as Kusi, a 28 year old unemployed, to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a bicycle worth GH¢55 at Nsoatre in the Sunyani Municipality.
Addai pleaded guilty to the offence of stealing and was sentenced accordingly.
Police Chief Inspector Alex Fosu told the court presided by Mr John Mensah that both the accused and the complainant were residents at Nsoatre.
He said at about 03:00 hours on January 1, this year, the complainant was awakened from sleep by an unusual noise and when he came out of his room he saw Addai moving out of the house with the bicycle, which had been parked at the kitchen.
The complainant raised the alarm but the accused rode the bicycle fast and disappeared into the darkness but was chased, arrested and handed over to the police.
In another development the court sentenced another unemployed, 20-year-old Amo Mensah, to two years imprisonment for stealing items worth GH¢1,288.7 at Berlin Top in Sunyani.
Police Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi told the court that on January 29, a house help of Mr Augustine Kumi Yeboah, a forestry consultant, returned from school to meet the main gate to their house opened.
Chief Inspector Baafi said the girl entered and met Mensah carrying several items he had stolen from the house and her shouts attracted neighbours who arrested him.
He said Mensah was sent to the police station together with the items, which included a VCD player, Nokia mobile phone, briefcases, cosmetics and some food items.
