Ghana edged Argentina 3-2 to grab a crucial victory and all three points in their second Group B game at the ongoing world U-20 championships in New Zealand.
The Black Satellites shot to a 3-0 lead at the Wellington Regional Stadium but Argentina fought back strongly with two goals in the final ten minutes to force a nerve-wracking injury time.
But Sellas Tetteh's charges held on bravely to secure the 2009 winners' first victory at the 2015 event and almost grab a qualification place for the second round.
Spain based Clifford Aboagye who missed the first game due to late arrival in Oceania, returned as captain and he netted Ghana's second goal in a great performance in midfield for the Satellites.
Dreams FC striker, Benjamin Tetteh put Ghana ahead in the first half with a deflected effort in a dominant Ghanaian display in the first 45 minutes.
The Satellites returned after the interval raring to go and Aboagye duly doubled the lead on 59 minutes before Yaw Yeboah converted from the spot on 69 minutes to further consolidate Ghana's lead and seemingly seal victory.
But record 6-time champions, Argentina who now need to beat Austria in thee final group game to stand a chance of progress, took advantage of Ghana goalkeeper Ati's fumble in the 80th minute to pull one back before another strike by the South Americans in the last minute of regulation time ensured a nervy but grandstand finish.
3-2 Ghana held on though to jump top of the group ahead of Austria on goals scored following the European side's 2-1 win over Panama earlier.
