The University of Ghana has commissioned a modern access control system at its Convocation Group of Buildings to tighten security around key administrative spaces, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has said.
The system, installed at the Registry, is part of the University’s broader security strategy aimed at protecting critical offices while improving safety for staff and visitors.
Prof. Amfo commissioned the facility together with the Registrar, Mrs Emelia Agyei-Mensah, at a brief ceremony held at the venue on Monday.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the move reflects management’s commitment to safeguarding institutional assets and ensuring a secure working environment.
The access control system is expected to regulate entry into sensitive offices, monitor movement, and reduce unauthorised access, particularly at a time when universities across the country are strengthening internal security in response to evolving safety concerns.
In a related development, the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar also unveiled refurbished Walls of Honour at the same location to recognise distinguished service to the University of Ghana.
The Walls feature the names of past Vice-Chancellors, Chairs of Council, and recipients of the University’s Meritorious Service Awards, highlighting individuals whose leadership and service have shaped the institution’s growth and reputation.
The refurbishment forms part of ongoing efforts by University management to modernise facilities while reinforcing the University’s traditions and values, as it positions itself to remain competitive among leading higher education institutions in Ghana and beyond.
