The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has appealed to the government to give it financial clearance to employ new staff so as to augment the human resources of the University.

The Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Prof. Lydia Aziato explained that it has become imperative for the institution to employ additional staff following the commissioning of the China Phase Two Extension Project.

She said some 450 workers would be needed to work and ensure full operationalization of the newly commissioned facility.

“We would need about 255 staff for Works & Physical Development, 25 ICT professionals, 50 faculty members, 60 heads to man the simulation center, and 50 administrators.

"We are appealing to be given clearance to employ these staff to ensure the full potential of the Phase Two Expansion Project”, she said.

She requested the provision of logistics including vehicles to add to the University’s fleet to enhance transport and administration works.

President Akufo-Addo commissioned the China Phase Two Expansion project for the University of Health and Allied Sciences on its permanent campus in Sokode in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region on Monday 29th July 2024.

The Project is expected to increase admission with about 2,500 midwifery and nursing students, provide state-of-the-art health training facilities as well as create over 400 direct jobs.

It entails the central administration complex, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, identified to be the biggest in West Africa, and a fully-equipped state-of-the-art Simulation Centre.

It also has a neonatal intensive care unit, theatre, pediatric, labor, emergency and surgical wards, clinical and ICT laboratories, and a canteen among others.

The Minister Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Ti Yang who represented the Ambassador underscored his country’s commitment to supporting the development agenda of Ghana.

He said the project forms part of his country’s resolve to help improve infrastructure in the country’s health sector.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour said the ceremony marks a new stride in the country’s health sector.

He eulogized President Akufo-Addo for his vision to set up a world-standard health training center in Ghana to aid in producing the requisite human resources to advance healthcare on the African continent.

He commended the former Vice Chancellor, Prof Owusu Gyapong for his relentless efforts in ensuring the successful completion of the China Phase Two Expansion Project.
