The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, congratulates the people of Ghana on the peaceful holding of their presidential and parliamentary elections.
He extends his congratulations to President Mahama and all presidential candidates for their exemplary conduct throughout the campaign period, and for their commitment to maintaining peace, especially as shown in their signing of the Kumasi Declaration.
The Secretary-General takes note of the declaration of the final results by the Electoral Commission, which he commends for its continued commitment to the professional and transparent organization of elections.
He encourages the concerned parties to continue to use legal means to resolve all disputes and he emphasizes that all actions taken in this critical period should contribute to preserving peace and stability in Ghana.
