An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced an unemployed man to 20 years imprisonment for having sex with a six-year- old girl in the bush.
Kwesi Asiamah, 27 was found guilty on the charge of defilement at the end of the trial by the court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
Asiamah is said to have committed a similar offence two years ago, but was discharged after the complainant and victim in the case failed to turn up in court.
Prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the court that the victim lives with her mother, the complainant at Kuntunse, near Amasaman. Asiamah, prosecution said, also lived at Pokuase, Accra.
Detective Inspector Atimbire said on July 23, at about 1600 hours, Asiamah met the victim who was returning from school on a bush road and he (the convict) called her under the pretext of escorting her to her parents.
Prosecution said on their way, Asiamah grabbed and pulled the victim into a palm plantation and had sex with her.
During the act, the victim screamed and that attracted a passer-by who went to the scene and shouted for help.
When Asiamah heard the shouts of the passer-by, he took to his heels but was arrested with the help of some witnesses.
Asiamah and the victim were escorted to parents of the victim. Subsequently, Asiamah was handed over to the Police at Amasaman who later transferred the case to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit.
Prosecution said the complainant was given a Police Medical Form so that the victim could be sent to the health facility for examination and treatment, and the medical report on the victim was submitted to the Police.
In his caution statement, prosecution said Asiamah denied the offence.
