A circuit court at Asamankese in the Eastern Region, on Tuesday sentenced Francis Amartey, an unemployed man, to three months imprisonment in hard labour and imposed a fine of GH¢500 on him for illegally harvesting palm fruit from a farm at Danso near Adeiso.He pleaded guilty.Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that farmers at Danso area had experienced theft of their farm produce.He said on Christmas day last year, Amartey went to the complainant’s farm at about 0800 hours and harvested palm fruits.Chief Inspector Idan told the court that a witness in the case confronted the convict on the farm but he escaped leaving his cutlasses and the harvested palm fruit.Prosecution said the witness informed the complainant about the case and he (complainant) reported the matter to the police.Source: GNA
