Western Union Company on Tuesday signed an agreement with uniBank of Ghana to offer its money transfer services in all the 13 UniBank branches across the country. This brings Western Union's agent networks in Ghana to more than 1,100 locations and also adds to UniBanks's extensive service offering to customers. Madam Jo Crawshaw, Communications Consultant of Western Union who addressed the signing ceremony, expressed Western Union's delight in adding UniBank to the list of the numerous banks in the country doing business with her outfit. "UniBank is an excellent addition to our agents network, complementing our already extensive reach across the nation. We look forward to a long and productive relationship for the benefit of our many consumers," she added. She said Western Union had been present on the African continent since 1995, opening its first African agent location in Ghana. Madam Crawshaw said according to the World Bank, remittance flow had been very supportive to the economies of developing countries like Ghana and urged all to partner Western Union in its quest to support the economy of the country. She noted that across Africa, Western Union had supported local communities with over 100 projects covering education, infrastructure and welfare needs in over 30 countries for the past seven years. Mr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Managing Director of UniBank, expressed the bank's delight in partnering with Western Union and praised the union for becoming one of the leading money transfer providers on the continent. He expressed UniBank's commitment in offering affordable banking and unparallel services to both the personal banking market and small and medium size businesses that had been marginalized by the traditional banking sector. Mr Owusu-Amoah bemoaned instances whereby a lot of persons in the informal and small scale businesses were not just not interested in the doing businesses with banks and said UniBank was rapidly establishing itself as the ideal bank for the under-banked segment of the market by delivering the right products and services to the group. He pledged, on behalf of UniBank, to minimize bureaucracies and to provide fast and efficient banking services to customers.
