Members of the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers, UNICOF at Merchant Bank have this morning begun a sit down strike.
It follows the bank’s refusal to reinstate the UNICOF’s local union chairman, Reverend Jonas Koranteng-Smart as directed by Labour Commission.
General Secretary of UNICOF, Kofi Davor confirmed the development to JOY-BUSINESS.
“The reason remains that we want the Labour Commission’s directive to be complied with by management. We also the management and board to go. We have not been served any notice about any court-action by management” he said.
JOYBUSINESS has however learnt it might be difficult for UNICOF’s demands to be met as the court is yet to rule on an appeal by the bank over the Labour Commission’s directive.
