The Ghana Youth Employment Development Agency (GYEDA) has terminated the appointments of Community Police personnel in the Tamale metropolis, and has consequently retrived their uniforms. The GYEDA has therefore asked interested individuals with interest to re-apply to the agency for consideration by the Ghana Police Service, who will assess their eligibility for re-recruitment. Mr. Umar Alhassan, the Tamale Metro Coordinator of the GYEDA explained to the media that the community police personnel in the metropolis have been arresting motorist without the mandate to do so, saying that, they had been cautioned against the act but they had failed to comply. He said the police would do the screening to select the hard working ones among them for recall. However, one of the personnel, who want to remain anonymous accused the authorities of unfair treatment alleging that one of the deputy coordinators in the metropolis had the girl friend arrested for riding an unlicensed motor bike without helmet. They Community police personnel threatened mayhem if their employers refused to re-engage them, complaining that there was no employment opportunities for them.
