Unilever Ghana, as part of its campaign to increase public awareness on the need for people to wash their hands and maintain personal hygiene, will today, Thursday, April 7, 2011 launch its popular brand, the Lifebuoy soap at the College of Surgeons & Physicians.
The New Advanced Lifebuoy, described as the world’s number one germ protection soap, contains an Active5 Germ Protection Formula which has been lab-proven to tackle both bacteria and viruses.
According to a statement issued by Unilever Ghana, the product will now come in a new and improved shape, packaging and different variants that produces 30% more lather.
“Let us all remember that simple everyday habits like washing hands with Lifebuoy soap before every meal and most important of all, after visiting the washroom will help improve lives considerably,” Mr David Mureithi, Managing Director of Unilever West Africa remarked.
Globally, Lifebuoy is noted as one of the oldest brands and has been the No. 1 selling health soap since 1894 when it first hit the market. It was first launched in the UK, and has travelled across the world reaching Europe, America, Asia and Africa, helping people leave a germ-free life over a century.
“Today, more than 1.6 billion people around the world trust Lifebuoy products to give them 100% germ protection,” Mr Mureithi said.
A MayUNICEF report indicates that 2.2 million deaths of children are preventable through improvements in the provision of safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene practices.
Human hands are the principal carriers of disease-causing germs and washing one’s hands regularly with soap could avert one million deaths a year.
