University of Ghana will on Monday, May 7, 2018, launch its Endowment Fund as part of activities in commemorating its 70th-anniversary celebrations.
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as well as other prominent personalities, are expected to be present at the occasion which will be held at the Great Hall, University of Ghana.
The Endowment Fund is to provide additional non-restricted funding to enable the University to improve the provision and promotion of higher education, teaching and research in Ghana.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu, a modest target of GH¢500 million and $50 million has been set as seed money for the Fund in supporting research and graduate training.
It is also expected that the proceeds from the Fund would assist in providing additional facilities and resources to enhance research and teaching including the procurement of equipment, teaching aids and space.
As part of the University of Ghana’s strategic plan of becoming a world-class research institution by 2024; four thematic areas have been identified for intensive research work.
These areas include Malaria research, Trans-disciplinary research into climate change adaption, Enhancing food production and processing as well as the Development policy and Poverty Monitoring and Evaluation.
All alumni of the University of Ghana, corporate Ghana and well-meaning individuals are encouraged to partner with the nation’s premier university in realizing its vision of becoming a citadel of excellence.
