Exclusive information reaching Adom News indicates officials of stakeholder organisations are boarding a boat this morning to go sign new contracts with striking Ghanaian riggers on Jack Ryan rig, which is currently at sea in the Jubilee Oil Field.

Adom News can confirm officials from the three recruitment agencies whose riggers are onboard Jack Ryan, an official from Petroleum Commission Ghana, and the Rig Manager are on their way to the rig to handdle the matter.

Those going include HR Manager for Rig World Ghana Limited, Naa Syntyche Torgbor-Gbedemah, a Manager from Menergy International, Ivy Tayne, General Manager for Ocean Platform, Stephen Hattoh, Rig Manager Mark Kressin and a Petroleum Commission official, Alfred Ayah.

The striking Ghanaians, number over 43, include Roughnecks, Roustabouts, Derrickmen, Electricians, Painters, Caterers, Sample Catcher, Material men and others. They have been on strike for the past 24 hours.

The cooks onboard the rig joined in the strike later on and there has since been hunger on the rig, while the expat rig owners from Transocean have locked themselves up in their rooms and also locked the lifts that would give the Ghanaians access to their offices.

The workers are simply asking for better salaries comparitive with what their counterparts on other rigs in Jubilee Field are earning.

Adom News earlier spoke with the HR Manager for Rig World, one of the recruitment agencies for the striking workers, Naa Syntyche Torgbor-Gbedemah and she promised the company was going to deal with the issues.

Meanwhile, the Petroleum Commission has promised to meet all agencies and unions of rig workers to trash out the salary issues once and for all.

Minister of Energy, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah instructed way back in 2011 that the salary disparities between Ghanaians and other nationals doing the same work on oil rigs should be dealt with. It has been three years and nothing has been done.
