The deputy Upper West Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Ali Dauda has assured all candidates vying for parliamentary seats in the Upper West Region that the his outfit will provide a level playing field they have been craving for.
He said ‘‘the Commission will be fair and we expect same from the candidates, so that the election will be won on fair terms’’.
Mr. Ali gave the assurance at a meeting organized by the EC with all Parliamentary candidates contesting the December polls.
‘‘As we start the campaign, we will go on to the field; we will play according to the rules of the game so that whoever emerges victorious will be victory for all us, it will be for democracy and indeed for mother Ghana,’’ Mr. Ali added.
He said the purpose of the meeting is to bring all contestants together in order to hear their views, concerns which will help in making the elections more transparent and trustworthy.
Fifty eight people including six women and two independent candidates have penciled their names for the upcoming elections.
The NDC parliamentary candidate for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency formerly Nadowli west constituency, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin thanked the Electoral Commission for organizing the meeting.
‘‘It is my hope the spirit that we all want to create the democratic culture will permeate through the members and the parties. We believe at the end of the day we will have a more conducive, cordial and democratic interactions. At the end of day the people will decide who they want to represent them either in parliament or as the president of this country’’.
He said democracy is not about conflicts, disputes and insults and it is his belief that with such a platform created by the EC, it will help to move the country’s democracy and development forward.
