The Convention People’s Party (CPP) would be day dreaming if it thinks it can win the presidential election in 2012, some respondents in the Upper West Region have said.
They told members of the Youth for Nduom 2012 Exploratory Committee touring the regions that what mattered most was for the party to concern itself with the reorganization of its grassroots structures to make the party attractive to people.
The Youth for Nduom 2012 Exploration Committee was in the region to find out the viability of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom as the presidential candidate of the CPP.
The CPP, they said, should also be more concerned with supporting some of its members to become district assembly members who would work with the grassroots structures to win more parliamentary seats for the party.
They said for now the CPP was not on the ground and it would be useless fighting to become the president of Ghana with one representative in Parliament.
“The CPP needs to win more parliamentary seats before it can think of winning the presidential election”, the respondents said.
They called on the leadership of the party to look for dedicated and committed persons to take up positions at the ward, zonal, constituency and regional levels and work to make the CPP a household word in the communities.
In their opinion, the current leadership in the region was only heard on radio talking about the CPP but in the communities the CPP was highly invisible.
Other respondents were also of the opinion that the CPP and the People National Convention (PNC) should resolve their differences and merge as one strong and vibrant political party to encourage Ghanaians to vote for it in the 2012 election.
The Party must be courageous to poach people from other political parties to help in its reorganization efforts, the respondents said.
Mr. Richard Nii Amarh, Spokesperson for the Committee, said the group was visiting Wa and Tumu to hear from the people whether they believe Dr. Nduom would be a better president or not.
The team would also find out why he lost in 2008 election and what they think they should do to help him win the 2012 election.
He called on the people to co-operate with the team and feel free to give honest and sincere views and answers to the questionnaires so as to make the exercise a success.
The group has already visited the Western, Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central and Upper West regions and would be on its way to the Upper East Region from Tumu.Source: GNA
