The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has shut down elevators in a move to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus scare.
Charles Barnor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the institution said, "All lifts have been shut down and we have de-densified all public places on campus."
In a message to the local branch of University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), he pleaded his colleagues to "please bear with us at this moment as we take preventive measures to ensure our campus is safe."
The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that two cases of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the country.
The cases, according to the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, were confirmed on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
"Laboratory results of the two confirmed cases were received at the same time from the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research. Both individuals returned to Ghana - one from Norway and the other from Turkey - so these are imported cases of COVID-19.
"Both patients are currently being kept in isolation and are stable. We have initiated processes for contact tracing," the Minister said.
He gave the assurance that the government of Ghana together with all health partners will continue to work assiduously to ensure the situation is contained.
Assuring his colleagues further, the UPSA Pro VC said, "soon the Director of Health Services will issue safety and preventive measures."
According to the Pro VC, "except for lectures all events that require massing up have been put on hold until further notice, the Learning Management Platform has been deployed to meet any contingencies.
"Deans will give further direction on this, Logistics will soon be provided to support healthy conduct of both staff and students."
All UPSA lecturers have been directed to mount Lecture Notes, Slides, Reference materials on our Learning Management system for weeks 7 - 12 by Sunday.
