The Ablekuma West Constituency in the Greater Accra Region spearheaded by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in Ghana’s Legislature House has seen significant strides in various sectors, contributing to the development of Dansoman enclave, and beyond.
Her leadership as representative of the people in Parliament has focused on several thematic areas, reflecting her commitment to improving the lives of her constituents.
Educational Infrastructure And Academic Empowerment
Under Ursula leadership, efforts to enhance the educational infrastructure and academic empowerment has been a cornerstone to her achievement.
• Mpoasei Basic School: A 3-storey, 18-unit classroom block.
• Digital Skills Training Programme: Benefited 1,000 individuals under Hon. Ursula’s initiative.
• Ebenezer Senior High School: Ultra-modern library featuring ICT and robotics centre.
• St. Margaret Mary SHS: A 2-storey, 9-unit classroom block.
• Tunga Islamic School: Constructed for the Muslim community in Tunga.
• Akweibu Basic School: A 3-storey, 9-unit classroom block.
These initiatives and projects have provided students with better learning environments, fostering academic excellence in the constituency.
Educational Facilities
Distribution of Furniture: Over 3,000 units of furniture provided to public schools.
Toilet Facility: A 10-seater toilet facility constructed at Mpoasei Methodist School.
Overseas Training Program: Beneficiaries of digital training programs received fully sponsored overseas training.
ICT Centres: Established ICT centres in public schools within the constituency.
Mock Examination Sponsorship: Full sponsorship of special mock examinations to prepare and equip B.E.C.E students.
Security
Recognizing the importance of security infrastructure, efforts have been prioritized.
Initiatives aimed at bolstering local law enforcement and community safety have resulted in a more secure environment for residents:
Circuit Court: Construction of a Circuit Court in the constituency.
Dansoman SSNIT Flats Police Station: Established a new police station to enhance security.
Street lights: Installation of over 3,000 street lights throughout the constituency.
Nissan Pickup Donation: Donated a Nissan Pickup vehicle to the Dansoman Police Station to support security operations.
CCTV Cameras: Installed CCTV cameras to improve police surveillance and public safety.
Sports
Under Sports development, the Member of Parliament has seen to the construction of basketball court in Dansoman SSNIT Flats, support for women’s football, donation of jerseys and footballs.
It includes the Ursula CUP which has been a massive talent development initiative showcasing sports development, and the construction of tennis court KIT FIT in Dansoman.
The list continues with the Tunga basketball court; support to Dansoman table tennis Association; support for Dansoman Draughts Association; support to Dansoman Keys Basketball Club, and financial support to some football teams across the constituency, including renovation of Dansoman Children’s Park into modern facility.
Social And Community Support
Under Social and Community Support, Hon. Ursula exceptional leadership has been felt in areas such as renovation of Dansoman Post Office.
She lobbied for the construction of Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly, cosmetology program for women, a ‘work and pay’ taxi program for the youth and the donation of food items. It also includes:
300 Household Toilets: Construction of 300 household toilet facilities for residents of Glefe and Shiabu.
Loan and Business Support: Over 6,000 beneficiaries of loan and business support programs.
MP’s Food Intervention Program: Provision of food support to vulnerable residents.
Support to the Elderly: Programs and initiatives aimed at assisting elderly constituents.
Driver Training and Licensing Scheme: Implementation of a training and licensing scheme for drivers and learners.
Support for Traditional Leaders: Annual financial and logistical support for traditional leaders.
Rent Assistance: Payment of rent for hundreds of constituents in need.
Road Infrastructure Upgrades
Significant road infrastructure projects have been undertaken across the Ablekuma West constituency to improve accessibility and enhance the living standards of residents.
Key developments include the construction of roads linking Emmanuel Presby Junction to Tunga, through Dansoman 1 & 2 Basic School in Okpoti.
Additional road works have been completed at Last Stop (Las Pamaz), connecting Ali Jara and the Night Market to Gbegbe JHS, as well as beach road improvements.
Inner roads from Nasrawa Dansoman 3 & 4 Basic School to Sahara Traffic Light, and the western link road from Ave Maria School to Petroleum Down, have also been rehabilitated.
Other notable projects include SSNIT Flats' inner roads, the Exhibition Down area, and drainage improvements at the Keep Fit Roundabout and surrounding areas.
Roads connecting Mount Olivet to Keep Fit, as well as the stretch from Royal MMR Hospital to Glefe Station, have further enhanced mobility and safety for residents.
To crown it all, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s multifaceted approach to leadership has fostered significant advancements in security, education, roads, community engagement, social intervention to constituents, entrepreneurship and other significant areas.
Her dedication continues to shape a brighter future for the Ablekuma West constituency.
