Mr Peter Mac-Manu, out-going National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advised in-coming national executives to use the party's laid down procedures to resolve internal conflicts. He said that was the way to ensure peace, unity and progress that would aid the party to recapture political power. Opening the 15th National Delegates Conference to elect new national officers to lead the party for the next four years at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, Mr Manu called for hard work and a vigorous membership drive at the polling stations. “Reflect, Rebuild and Recapture" is the theme for the one-day conference, attended by 4,500 delegates. Mr Mac-Manu urged party supporters to refrain from activities that would make the work of the leadership difficult. He took a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to deliver on its electoral campaign promises. He did not hide his disappointment at his inability to lead the party to victory in the 2008 general elections but said the NPP would make amends to win back power in 2012. Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader in Parliament urged delegates to let their choice of leaders be influenced by proven competence and experience. He told the conference that the party's MPs were determined not to allow the NDC majority to have its way in parliament and would continue to resist creeping tendencies of suppression and oppression. Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said efforts should be made by the executive to inject more dynamism into the party as it prepares to wrest power from the NDC, who have failed the nation. He added that NDC had become a party of failed promises and betrayal of trust. Mr Fredrick Fredua Anto, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, said the region, the stronghold of the NPP, was happy to host the conference to launch the operation to recapture power. "We have to put our house in order and bury our differences and be a source of inspiration to other political parties", he added. Early on the delegates had held a minute's silence for the party's departed stalwarts including B.J. da Rocha, Madam Hawa Yakubu and Major Courage Quashigah. Source: GNA
