The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has extended warm congratulations to President-elect John Mahama on his victory in the 2024 presidential elections, describing it as a resounding endorsement of his vision and leadership.
“This victory is a strong affirmation of the Ghanaian people’s trust in your social contract and steadfast commitment to the nation’s progress and prosperity,” UTAG stated in a press release signed by its National President, Prof. Mamudu A. Akudugu, and National Secretary, Prof. Eliasu Mumuni.
The association also celebrated the Vice President-elect, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, highlighting her historic achievements.
“As a UTAG member, we are incredibly proud of your accomplishments as the first female Vice Chancellor of a public university in Ghana and, above all, the first female Vice President-elect of the Republic of Ghana,” the statement read.
UTAG commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, for his timely concession, which they noted helped ease tensions during a critical period.

“This act of statesmanship is commendable and deeply appreciated,” it noted.
The association also applauded the Electoral Commission for its resilience, transparency, and commitment to credible elections, adding that these efforts have upheld Ghana’s democratic principles.
UTAG expressed gratitude to the Elections Security Taskforce for their role in maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process.
“Finally, UTAG congratulates all Ghanaians for their patience, civic responsibility, and adherence to the peaceful processes that have defined this election,” the statement said.
As the election concludes, UTAG stated that the conduct of citizens and institutions further cements Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
“Once again, congratulations, John Dramani Mahama, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana.”
This acknowledgement from UTAG highlights the collective effort that contributed to the success of the 2024 elections, celebrating Ghana’s democratic spirit and unity.
