One of Ghana’s foremost broadcasters, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, who publicly declared support and actively campaigned for President John Mahama's re-election in the December 2012 election, has said that government has lost focus.
Known popularly as "Abeiku Santana", the broadcaster said Ghana needed a more principled person who would instill discipline in government officials.
Abeiku Santana who joined a youth group - Youth For Mahama - to campaign for president John Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress ahead of the December, 2012 elections, made the remarks on Accra-based Montie FM on Wednesday.
Perceived by many as a Mahama-partisan, the host of late afternoon show "Ekwanso Dwodwoo" on Okay FM also said that, president Mahama had surrounded himself with hypocrites, parasites and vampires.
“I am saying that we are sitting on a time-bomb. There is going to be a social revolution in this country. Now we all see that the people detest pastors, chiefs and politicians. What organization do all Ghanaians revere? Only the military. So we have to be careful. I am telling you, anybody who knows intelligence would sit up, just look at the trend and analyze,” Mr. Santana has said.
He said that the people who voted for the government have a right to ask the government whether it was living up to its responsiilities. He said those in power today are neither politicians nor leaders.
“They are neither politicians nor leaders. If they were they would speak for the people. Rather they are hypocrites and vampires, so when they get power, they rather enrich themselves, satisfy their own agendas before they think of the people.
“The politicians are simply too selfish,” he said, adding that "all governments since Nkrumah have been very selfish, with the exception of President Jerry John Rawlings.
