Ghana’s football teams that won gold and silver at the All Africa Games have been commended for lifting the nation's image, Vice President John Mahama said today.
The male Olympic team, the Black Meteors won gold after beating South Africa in the finals 4-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in regulation time while women's U-20 side, the Black Princesses picked silver following a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the final.
Ghana's sporting contingents including the two football teams were hosted at the Castle in Osu on Thursday with VP Mahama praising the teams for their efforts that saw Ghana pick 19 medals at the games staged in Mozambique.
“We have discussed with the Chief of Staff and the Sports Ministry and have directed that all outstanding bonuses that are owed to the various groups be paid immediately,” H.E Mahama said.
“Aside from that we have also discussed a reward system for all and have directed the Sports Minister to put it together for approval and I am certain that before the end of next week the rewards that government has planned to give to you for the good work done would be paid out to you.”
