The Vegetarian Association of Ghana (VegGhana) has pushed the 42nd International Vegetarian Union (IVU) to October 24 and 25 in response to government’s ban on all international conferences due to the Ebola scourge.
On October 24 the event will officially be launched with the support of key stakeholders in health.
There will “a colourful float starting at Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circe through the principal streets of Accra to engage the public on the need to lead a healthy lifestyle”, a statement from the association said.
“The 25th [of October] will be a full day of educational seminars, entertainment, exhibitions, great food and family fun at the Efua Sutherland Park.”
The IVU conference in Ghana would be the first in Africa.
Speaking to the media in Accra, The Chairman of the Planning Committee Dr. Kofi Asare expressed his disappointment at the postponement but emphasized “the need to look at the bigger picture of ensuring public health and safety”.
He said the decision government has taken is in the best interests of all.
He urged Ghanaians to increase their intake of plant based foods which would strengthen their immune systems in general and provide better general health.
VegGhana is supported by Ecobank.
