The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, on Sunday urged Zongo communities to reflect soberly on the positive achievements of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and support the Government.
He mentioned the NEPAD School Feeding Programme, the Capitation Grant and the National Health Insurance Scheme among others as some of the good works of the Government.
Alhaji Mahama made the appeal at the final funeral rites of the late Abdul Rahim, Chief Imam of Birim South District, at Akyem Oda.
The occasion coincided with a colourful installation of Mallam Abdallah Alhassan, as the new Chief Imam.
Alhaji Mahama told the people that unlike religion one could change his or her political affiliation and appealed to those in the opposition parties to join the NPP.
He said government had the Zongo communities at heart and would do all it could to ensure that the people lived in dignity.
Alhaji Mahama called for peace and tranquillity in Zongo communities at all times and advised the people not to allow their political differences to result in rancour and bitterness.
He urged parents to send their children to school to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.
Alhaji Mahama donated five million cedis, two bags of rice, two gallons of edible oil and seven crates of assorted drinks to the bereaved family.
Ms. Susana Mensah, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, advised the people to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme so that they could access good quality health care.
She expressed satisfaction at the peaceful way at which both Christians and Muslims congregated at the funeral and urged Ghanaians to preserve the peace the nation was enjoying.
