Singer, Wendy Shay, says she has grown to be strong-minded in the industry to face many of these trolls on social media.
“I think people attack me because my fire is too hot and my style is too big so definitely I’ll get people throwing things at me. People wouldn't throw stones at unripped mangoes,” Wendy Shay said Tuesday, in an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.
The ‘Uber Driver’ hitmaker is undoubtedly one of the musicians in the country who has faced lots of backlash from social media users.
Although she is a little over a year old in the industry, she has been trolled on the internet for her talent, her dressing and even her makeup or no-makeup face.
But Wendy Shay says, she has people by her side who get her through these situations all the time. She revealed that her mom, especially, has been supportive of her career since she began.
“I have people that understand me and believe in me. I do believe in myself. I’m not gonna let anybody bring me down,” Wendy Shay said
She told Jay Foley, host of the show, that there are a few times some critics have been right and she is one to learn from her shortcomings.
Referencing the backlash she got from her photo with former President John Kufuor, she said, “I am somebody when I make mistakes I don’t brush them off. People were right when they said that the outfit [I wore] was wrong for the occasion.”
She added there are trolls who purposely do things to discourage her but she is growing strong every day and is not about to let their opinions ride her down.
According to the ‘Stevie Wonder’ singer, regardless of all the trolls, it has never crossed her mind to quit music.
“I came from Germany to Ghana to do something. I won’t go back empty-handed until I make my mark. I love Afrobeat and I want to sell it to the world,” she added.
