The man suspected to have murdered his 20- year-old UPSA girlfriend, says his plan was to kill himself in front her after she jilted him.

Paul Egename told Joy News’ Kofi Okyere Mensah exclusively that he was confused after the deceased broke up with him.

“I was confused after she broke up with me. I did not sleep the whole night. I tried to drink acid but the glass containing the acid fell so I took a knife and drove to her hostel to kill myself in front of her,” he said.

A  third year Banking and Finance student of the University of Professional Studies, Jennifer Atieku died at the Pentecost Hospital in Madina after sustaining multiple stab wounds.

Paul who is suspected to have stabbed her, also stabbed himself in an attempt to kill himself but he was rushed to the same hospital where his girlfriend died and put under close watch.

The two had been reportedly dating for the past five years.

A brother of the deceased alleged that Paul had threatened to kill his sister two days before the incident happened and a complaint was lodged with the police.

The Madina police had confirmed that the deceased's boyfriend was arrested and granted bail a day before the incident.

In his first public comments after receiving treatment in hospital for internal bleeding, Paul says he and the deceased had promised each other eternal love.

“Everyday what we used to say was that she and I would never break up. And only death can separate us so when she told me I was not her class, I was confused, that Wednesday night, I could not sleep,” he said.

According to Paul his friends mocked him for being jilted by his girlfriend, claiing he did not intend to kill her.

“I was going to kill myself but she was running and screaming 'Jesus Jesus' after she saw the knife. She took it from me and said if I was going to kill myself and put her into trouble, then we [would] both die,” Paul recounted.
