Vincent Amedzake, a recent graduate of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication UNIMAC, made history as the first Valedictorian of the university's inaugural congregation.
The event, which took place on Thursday, April 14th, 2023, at the North Dzorwulu Campus, celebrated the first cohort of graduates since the merger of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), the National Television and Film Institute (NAFTI), and the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) to form UNIMAC.
Vincent Amedzake was the star of the event, taking home two awards - the Best Graduating Student in Public Relations and the Overall Best Student at the undergraduate level.
Vincent had also received the same recognition during his diploma graduation in 2020.

In his speech, Vincent expressed his gratitude to UNIMAC for providing him and his fellow graduates with a platform to grow and thrive. "This congregation marks the beginning of a new era in the history of UNIMAC, and I am honored to be part of this historic occasion," he said.
"As we venture into the world, we carry with us the knowledge, skills, and values imparted by UNIMAC, and we are poised to make a significant impact in our respective fields."
“We extend our profound gratitude to the University, particularly to management, for providing us with a world-class education and shaping us into the individuals we are today. We will forever cherish the memories and experiences we have gained here, and we look forward to making you proud as we embark on the next phase of our journey,” he said.
He called on the University’s Management to fix the challenges students face each year to enhance their experience during their stay at the university.
He also congratulated his colleagues on their significant achievement.
Vincent's academic excellence was evident in his outstanding performance, and it is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and passion for his field. He thanked his lecturers, family, and friends for their support throughout his academic journey.
A citation signed by the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAC, Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, in Vincent’s honour read, “You were admitted in 2020 to pursue BA Communication Studies (Public Relations Option). You have throughout your studies exhibited outstanding commitment and diligence in your studies, resulting in your excellent academic achievements today. In recognition of this commendable feat, Management of the University is privileged to present to you this citation to commemorate your achievements.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, in his address congratulated the graduates and applauded their resilience, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The congregation was a celebration of the achievements of the first cohort of graduates of UNIMAC, and it marks the beginning of a new era in the university's history.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who lauded UNIMAC for its contribution to the development of Ghana’s media and creative arts industry. "UNIMAC has set the bar high, and I urge other universities to emulate its example," he said.
Vincent's achievement is a source of pride for UNIMAC, and it is a testament to the university's commitment to nurturing talent and promoting academic excellence. His story inspires young people across Ghana, underscoring the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance in achieving one's goals.
