Vodafone Ghana continues its transformative journey in the Western Region with its flagship ‘Grow Western 2023’ initiative. This comprehensive programme, the cornerstone of Vodafone Ghana’s presence in the region, is designed to incentivise customers, enhance healthcare, boost technological knowledge, and foster overall community growth.
A standout activity under this initiative is the ‘Grow Western Girls in STEM’ programme, where 50 young girls aged 12–15 years from Sekondi-Takoradi underwent free STEM and Robotics training. This training was meant to equip these young minds with skills in robotics, web development, coding and also align with the broader vision of the ‘Grow Western 2023 Initiative’ to empower the next generation.
Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Vodafone Ghana Foundation, shared, “Vodafone Ghana has consistently sought to promote gender equality in STEM by empowering girls and women to pursue STEM education. We believe that supporting girls with our resources and expertise will pave the way for them to develop the skills needed to succeed in the STEM field. We take immense pride in bringing this training to the doorstep of girls in the Western Region through the ‘Grow Western Girls in STEM’ initiative, and we have full confidence that the outcomes will be nothing short of extraordinary.”
Metropolitan Director of Education, Sekondi-Takoradi, Madam Sally Nelly Coleman, expressed her gratitude, stating, “Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s intervention is timely. Many of our girls are now gaining exposure to the world of robotics, and this initiative encourages their participation in fields like technology and engineering. I thank the Vodafone Foundation for making STEM education accessible and free in our district.”
Vodafone Ghana’s commitment to the Western Region is multifaceted. ‘Rural Ultrasound Scan’ services ensure that expectant mothers in remote areas receive a critical service in their prenatal care. Alongside this, ‘Homecoming’ events have been organised to assist insolvent patients in settling hospital bills to join their families. To further support the community, Vodafone Ghana Foundation offers free National Health Insurance cards to those facing financial challenges.
The community’s health and well-being are further bolstered by 'Healthfest', an event which offers free medical screenings to residents. Beyond healthcare, the ‘Vodafone Retail Transformation’ project is establishing community shops throughout the region. Each of these initiatives underscores the depth of the ‘Grow Western 2023 Initiative’ and Vodafone Ghana’s comprehensive approach to community development in the Western Region.
As Vodafone Ghana continues to invest in the Western Region, the ‘Grow Western 2023’ initiative stands as a beacon of the company’s dedication to creating lasting positive change, one community at a time.
