Vodafone Ghana has launched the Vodafone App Star contest; a mobile app competition to uncover creative and innovative app developers in Ghana and to offer them an opportunity to compete internationally with other developers.
The annual contest, which is categorized into start-up and established developers, is part of efforts by Vodafone to bolster the app developer community in Ghana.
Winners of the competition in each category will be awarded prizes worth GHC10, 000 and an all-expense paid trip to India to participate in the global App Star competition on 15th January, 2015.
Speaking at the launch, Julius Owusu-Kyerematen, Director of Strategy and Innovation at Vodafone Ghana said “App Star is a unique innovation driven contest, which empowers local App developers to showcase their Apps on a global scale. This is Vodafone’s approach to pioneering mobile innovation in the technology and app developer industry in Ghana.”
The annually held App contest is in two stages; the local and global level competition. In the months of October and November 2014, developers in Ghana will have the opportunity to submit their apps for the contest in the lifestyle or entertainment category. The best two adjudged apps winners in Ghana will then participate in the global competition.
The overall winner of the Vodafone Ghana App Star competition will win an all-expense paid trip to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona; the second prize winner will receive USD 5,000 worth of Amazon Shopping vouchers; and the third prize winner will receive devices from Vodafone Ghana. All three winners will enjoy free advertisement on Vodafone’s Group’s app store.
App developers in Ghana can participate by registering on the Vodafone Ghana App Star website – www.vodafoneghanaappstar.com.
