Vodafone Ghana Foundation has awarded seven techy companies under its Mobile for Good Technology to promote the use of mobile to enhance lives.
The programme has been designed to utilize mobile technology to help solve community problems in the areas of education and health.
Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Haris Broumidis said the Mobile for Good Project reiterates Vodafone’s commitment to invest more into communities it operates, as well as promoting high standards in the telecommunications industry.
He expressed satisfaction about government’s endorsement and support for the initiative that will improve lives and bring smiles to thousands of people in this country.
Speaking to Joy News in an interview, Head of Vodafone Ghana Foundation, Nana Yaa Ofori-Koree says the projects have the ability to change people’s lives.
The mobile for good technology is simply using mobile technology to drive social change, she said.
Ato Sarpong, Deputy Minister of Communication remarked. “The telecoms industry in Ghana has shown tremendous growth and diversity since the middle 90s when the sector was liberalised. I must commend Vodafone Ghana for bringing innovation and active competition to the sector – we are now seeing the emergence of a new generation that is determined to embrace digitisation as a platform for social change.”
He said government endorses Vodafone Ghana Foundation’s Mobile for Good program simply because it is aimed at driving innovative mobile solutions that are in line with government’s agenda to deliver social change in health, education, environment and economic development.
The companies whose apps were selected are: Mpire Infobusiness System, Voto Mobile, Kharis Foundation, Tiny David Limited, Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Services Health Assistance Training School, Tepa, and Educators International.
Each of the seven (7) selected projects received a sponsorship fee of 50,000.00 Ghana cedis to help in execution and running of the project over a period of one year.
