The National Peace Council’s Volta Region chapter organised a Peace Walk to promote calm and stability ahead of Ghana’s upcoming elections.

The event, held in collaboration with Peace Ghana, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ho We Dey Ambassadors, Rotary Club, and the Broadcast Club of Ho, brought together community leaders, organisations, and residents to champion the message of peace.

The Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Volta for Peace Walk, Apostle Courage Godswill Elorm, emphasised the critical importance of maintaining the peace that Ghana has enjoyed for decades.

As an eminent member of the National Peace Council, Aps Courage called on citizens to prioritise unity and non-violence before, during, and after the electoral process.

“Peace is the cornerstone of our democracy,” Aps Courage declared during the walk. “It is our collective responsibility to preserve the harmony that has kept our nation strong and united. Elections are not about conflict; they are an opportunity to express our democratic rights and choose leaders who will serve the country.”

His message resonated deeply with attendees, who participated in the walk through key areas of Ho. The event aimed to raise awareness about the potential dangers of electoral violence and the importance of dialogue and tolerance.

Participants carried banners and placards with messages promoting peaceful conduct, while community leaders delivered speeches reinforcing the need for non-violent civic engagement.

The involvement of various organizations underscored the broad-based support for the peace initiative. The NCCE, known for its educational campaigns on civic responsibility, played a pivotal role in mobilising youth participation.

The Rotary Club and Ho We Dey Ambassadors contributed resources and volunteers, emphasizing the importance of community-driven efforts in fostering peace.

“Peace is a shared commitment,” said a representative from the Rotary Club. “By working together, we can ensure that our communities remain safe and that every voice is heard without fear or intimidation.”

The Peace Walk is part of a series of initiatives by the National Peace Council to engage communities across Ghana in dialogue and conflict resolution. The Volta Region, known for its diverse population and political significance, has been a focal point for peacebuilding efforts.

Aps Courage highlighted the need for continuous engagement beyond the walk.

“This is just the beginning. We need to take the message of peace into our homes, schools, and workplaces. Let us set an example for future generations that peace is non-negotiable.”

As Ghana prepares for its elections, events like the Volta for Peace Walk serve as vital reminders of the importance of unity and cooperation.
