Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode, and Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, have separately pointed out that the Volta region has its fair share of national development projects. The two, who addressed the closing session of the Volta regional Policy Fair which closed Saturday, said, the fact of the region receiving its fair share of the national cake was evident in the various developmental projects that had been undertaken or were being undertaken by governmental bodies like the municipal and district assemblies in the region as exposed by the fair, held at the Ola Senior High School, Ho. The closing ceremony was chaired by Togbega Kwaku Ayim IV, Fiaga (Paramount Chief) of Ziavi. According to Amenowode, the four-day fair, which he called an historic event, not only offered patrons young and old, literate and illiterate immense education, “It also demonstrated to us that the Volta region is not being left behind in development and that we of the Volta region have had our fair share of the national cake. It is important for us to note that all these are manifestations of government policies and programmes.” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the government will continue to engage the views and active broad-base participation of the people in the governance process. That commitment, he said, is non-negotiable. Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed gratitude to President John Mills for visiting the fair, saying the visit was “…yet another clear indication of his commitment to running an open and transparent government where nothing is hidden from the people…” The four-day Policy Fair, he said, arose from the unrelenting need to constantly engage the people at all levels with the view to bringing governance closer to them and also taking feedback from them. “This is what His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills meant when he promised to run an open, transparent and accountable government.” According to the Deputy Information Minister, among other achievements, the Volta Regional Fair brought to the fore achievements of the Mills administration in the region. “Those who for a moment had doubts as to whether the Volta Region was receiving its fair share of the Better Ghana Agenda I’m sure from the evidence from this fair have revised their notes. “The Atta Mills led government would continue to deliver on its promises. We will ensure that the peoples living conditions are improved and that Ghana’s development is accelerated on an even, fair and just scale,” he said. According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, 70 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies exhibited their Policies, Programmes and Projects while averagely, over 1,200 people visited the fairgrounds daily. The Ashanti region is next to host the regional fairs, to be followed by the Northern Region.
