Executives of the National Democratic Congress in the Volta Region have declared support for President Mills’ second term bid.
They have vowed not to work with any other candidate the party may put forward for the 2012 elections.
The executives made this known at a news conference in Ho.
It was attended by high ranking members including the Tourism Minister, Deputy Local Government Minister, National Propaganda Secretary as well as the Volta Regional Minister and his deputy.
NDC Volta regional chairman, Kwesi Aboagye, warned that any attempt to remove President Mills will spell doom for the party.
His declaration follows a similar one by the Ashanti regional branch of the ruling party.
In a subsequent interview with Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh, the regional chairman said their declaration has become necessary due to the happenings within the party which are ruffling some nerves.
He mentioned attempts by some persons within the party who claimed to be campaigning for Mrs. Konadu Rawlings, a situation he said does not inure to the benefit of the country.
“We are dancing to the tune of the music that is playing now,” he said in defence of their action, and vehemently objected to comments that they are being opportunistic by prematurely declaring for Mills even when nominations have not been opened.
He said they owe allegiance to the president and they will still support him until his eight-year tenure is over.
