President John Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to equitable national development, stating that the Volta Region is beginning to receive its fair share of the country’s resources, in line with pledges made during the 2024 general election campaign.
Mr Mahama, who promised to ensure balanced development across all 16 regions, said tangible progress was now evident in the Volta Region.
"As I said during the campaign in 2024, we shall ensure that every region gets its fair share of the national cake, and the Volta region is getting its first share of the national cake," he said.
He was speaking on Wednesday, December 17, in Ho, the regional capital, at a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of a smart city project in the municipality, The Oxygen City.
The President noted that the initiative reflects his administration’s broader vision of inclusive growth, where development is deliberately decentralised and aligned with the needs of communities across the country.
"Housing is one of the clearest measures of a society's progress. A safe, decent home is not a privilege for a few but a fundamental human requirement for human dignity, economic productivity, social stability and national cohesion, and that is why housing occupies a central place in our reset agenda," he added.
The smart city project, being undertaken by the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), is designed to deliver affordable and modern housing to help address the housing deficit in the Ho Municipality.

The development, located near the Ho Airport, is expected to enhance urban planning, improve living standards and stimulate local economic activity.
Spanning a total land area of approximately 1,860 hectares, the project is envisioned as a forward-looking urban enclave, blending modern infrastructure with sustainable living solutions, and positioning Ho as an emerging growth hub within the Volta Region and Ghana at large.
