The Volta Regional office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has marked its 20th Anniversary celebrations with a donation to the Ho Central Prison.
The office led by the Volta Regional Director of FDA, Gordon Akurugu, donated medication to the institution, geared towards providing basic healthcare needs for officers and inmates of one of the two penal institutions in the Volta Region.
Mr Akurugu said the donation was in response to the need to stock the infirmary of the Prison’s clinic, to treat minor illnesses.
He said the authority solicited support from its clientele to accumulate the medications, which included, blood tonics, antimalarial drugs, and among others.
“We have brought very open medications. These are common medications that will help us, especially this season.

"We are only appealing that they should not abuse them, because one of the core mandates of the FDA is to advise people not to abuse medication. So we are advising that it should only be given to them when they need it”, Mr Akurugu said.
The Second in Command of the Ho Central Prisons, Assistant Director of Prisons, Francis Dotsey explained that the clinic extends its services to members of the public, hence the benefits of the donation are not limited to just the Prison, but its immediate environs.
He used the opportunity to appeal for food supplies for the facility to complement the provision of the medications.
“All these things that we see here are worth a lot even the food that we eat. And I am sure that living on these drugs alone without food, we can't survive. Is it not true?
So I am very happy that you made this place a dwelling place this morning for the upkeep of our health. Thank you very much and I wish you the best during your anniversary”, he said.
