Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has cut-the-sod for several development projects in Keta Municipality, marking a significant step towards improving social infrastructure in the area. 

The projects included a two-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Keta State School in Abutiakope, suburb of Keta, a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Anlo-Afiadenyigba, and a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Atiavi. 

Additionally, CHPS (Community-based Health Planning System) compound with staff accommodation would be constructed at Tengekope and Seva to enhance quality healthcare services in the communities. 

Mr Gunu, cutting the sod at State School in Abutiakope, disclosed that the government was committed to people-centred development projects and expanding essential social infrastructure across the Volta Region under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership. 

"These projects reflect our government's focus on building stronger communities and improving the quality of life for residents in the Keta Municipality and the entire Volta Region to uplift and improve quality of life for all," he said. 

He explained that similar activities had been conducted at various municipalities and districts across the region including South Tongu, Central Tongu, among others with some scheduled to take place in the subsequent week to improve infrastructure development in the region. 

He commended the leadership of Keta Municipal Assembly and other hardworking stakeholders for their dedication to delivering impactful projects and urged beneficiary communities to collaborate, support the construction, and maintain the facilities for long-term sustainability when completed.  

"We are charging the constructors uncharged of the various construction works to do clean and better work for the benefit of all, we trust they will do a wonderful work and complete within the stipulated time." 

He appealed to chiefs and people of the various beneficiary communities to support government and advised them to use the appropriate channels to table their grievances for redress. 

Member of Parliament of Keta Constituency, Kwame Dzudzorli Agakpey, and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Wisdom Seade, who joined the Minister in the sod-cutting ceremony, expressed their excitement over the exercise, saying they would go a long way to improve the education, health and social development of the communities. 

The development projects in Keta Constituency they said were part of government's broader agenda to drive progress and prosperity in the region to impact meaningfully on the development of the communities.  

They pledged their commitment and support to the initiative and urged the public to own the project and watch over it for smooth and successful completion. 

A resident of Abutiakope, Selasi Manfred Agbeko, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the move by the Regional Minister, the MP and the MCE, to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and social welfare were expected to address pressing challenges in the region including unemployment rate and create job for the youth.
