James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting quality education in the region through infrastructure projects to upgrade Senior High Schools.

He made this pronouncement during the 73rd Anniversary and Prize-Giving Day celebration at the Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) in the region.

Mr Gunu, who was the guest of honour during the celebration, highlighted the several GETFund projects ongoing in the region, with Ketasco benefiting from a major allocation and assured the school community that the project would be commissioned before the end of March, which would be expected to significantly enhance the school’s infrastructure and improve the learning environment.

“We also have the opportunity today to commission the newly constructed Visual Arts Department building, a legacy project generously donated by the 1963 Year Group,” he said.

He commended the year group for their vision, commitment, and continued support to their alma mater and stated that the new facility would significantly enhance practical learning and help nurture creativity and entrepreneurial skills among the students.

Mr Gunu emphasised that education remains a key pillar of the government’s development agenda while congratulating the school on the milestone achievement chopped over the years and urged the students, staff, and alumni to continue the successful story of Ketasco.

“Education is key to the development of the Volta Region, and Ketasco is playing a very significant part with the school’s commitment to excellence, evident in the achievements.

The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, who also witnessed the celebration, revealed the importance of education in national development and urged the students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

He commended the 1963 Year Group, who donated the Visual Arts Department building, for their generosity, as the contribution was expected to have a lasting impact on the school.

He stated that the Visual Arts Department building was a valuable resource for students to enhance teaching and learning experience and prepare students for the future, and noted that the anniversary celebration was a memorable event for the school community to improve continued growth and success.

“The government’s support for education in the Volta Region is evident, with many GETFund infrastructure projects, including that of Ketasco, which is a clear testament to the progress of the schools. Ketasco at 73 Anniversary is a milestone achievement, with the school’s commitment to excellence driving its success.”

Mr Innocent August, the Headmaster of Ketasco, said that the 73rd Anniversary celebration was a moment of pride for the school community, bringing together alumni, students, staff, and stakeholders to celebrate the school’s achievements.

He said that the presence of the notable dignitaries, including government officials, indicated the commitment to education in the Volta Region, while the GETFund project and the new Visual Arts Department built by the 1963-year group demonstrated a big testament to their commitment.

He explained that Mr Gunu’s assurance to commission GETFund has brought hope to the school community, who were eagerly awaiting the project’s completion and the benefits it would bring to uplift the standard of academic education.

The 1963 year group’s donation was seen as a model for other alumni to follow, with their contribution having a lasting impact on the Ketasco family. KETASCO’s 73rd anniversary is a celebration of the school’s history and achievements, looking forward to a bright future.

Mr Fiagbe Bodza-Lumor, a member of the 1963 old students’ group, told the Ghana News Agency that the Visual Arts Department building initiated by the old students was a significant addition to the infrastructure development of the school to provide students and teachers a conducive environment to explore their creativity.

He said that the students, staff, and alumni, among others, were proud of their institution, with the anniversary celebration serving as a testament to the commitment and pride.

Some students and staff of Ketasco have also expressed gratitude to the government and the 1963 Year Group for their support and look forward to continued development and growth.

They said that the anniversary celebration was a joyous occasion, with cultural performances and prize-giving ceremonies which recognised the achievements of outstanding students and staff, while the move has highlighted the importance of equipping students with practical skills for the future.

The event showcased Ketasco’s strengths and achievements, which showcased the school’s commitment to excellence in education, and the government’s support and the dedication of the school community, would be poised for continued growth and success.

The celebration was on the theme, “Youth employment and unemployment, the case for teaching Entrepreneurial Development skills as a core subject in secondary school.”
