Allegations of vote buying are beginning to emerge in the New Patriotic Party as the party heads for congress on Saturday.Delegates of the party from around the country head for the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi where the party holds its congress to elect national executives. The competitions for the various offices have been keen and the latest revelation by one delegate, if true, is feared to be a precursor to the turn of events at the conference. The delegate, an assistant secretary of the NPP in the Krowo constituency who gave his name as Aminu, walked into the studios of Joy FM clutching two 2kg bags of rice.According to him, he received a text message from his constituency secretary informing him about a meeting between Greater Accra Regional executives of the party and regional delegates.“We got there and to my surprise it was only three people I sighted,” he said, adding, these were top shots of the party in the region. The three stalwarts, according to him, presented each of the 16 delegates who eventually turned up for the meeting with two 5-kilogramme bags of rice plus a list of “preferred candidates” to vote for on congress day.For Aminu, although the rice would make his next meal, he is disappointed at the incident and expected persons vying for positions to only sell their messages rather than attempt to induce delegates with gifts.Meanwhile, Sheikh I.C. Quaye, whose residence the supposed meeting is said to have held, denied ever presenting the delegates with a list.According to him, the delegates were only invited and briefed on how to conduct themselves at the congress grounds.Listen to an edited version of Aminu's accountStory by Fiifi Koomson/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
