The Ghana Police Service has announced the conviction of three persons by the Wa District Magistrate Court for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper West Regional Police Command, the convicts, Yiratang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan, were prosecuted and found guilty on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
The three, who had earlier been remanded in custody, reappeared before the court, presided over by Simon Kofi Bediako, where they pleaded guilty to charges of possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
The court convicted them on their own pleas and sentenced each of them to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵2,400, or in default, nine months’ imprisonment.
In the statement, the Police Service encouraged the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime and criminality in the region.
