Four schools and orphanages in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region got a major push when educational non-governmental organization, Walk2Learn donated books and other educational material running into thousands of Ghana cedis to them. The donation, which coincided with Ghana’s 55 independence celebration, was in collaboration with Solutions for Life Initiative-Ghana a Kumasi based nongovernmental organization that seeks to make every child count in nation building. Solutions for Life Initiative-Ghana (SFLG) launched a facebook GHc1.00 Back to School project to raise funds to donate stationery to the destitute in Kumasi and its environs. One thousand exercise books together with four hundred reading and learning materials donated by Walk2Learn International their partner was distributed to four orphanage homes and one rehabilitation centre in Kumasi. Speaking at the various centres that the books were donated, the Executive Director for Solutions for Life Initiative-Ghana Ms. Sally Appiagyei-Frimpong said her years of working with orphanages exposed her to the plight of orphans when it comes to learning materials for their academics especially exercise and textbooks. She said many inmates were disadvantaged because many of the orphanages have limited resources they are not able to provide them with these essential needs. She therefore set out to help partnering with Walk2Learn to make the donation they believe of tremendous benefit to the pupils.
