A presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng says what Ghana needs now is an administrator and science and technology-driven leadership.President John Agyekum Kufuor, whom he described as a "great and outstanding statesman," has laid the economic and infrastructural foundation and it is left with the application of science and technology for Ghana to take off, he avers.
Prof Frimpong-Boateng said his track record at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he is in charge of a staff of over 6,000 people with diverse educational and professional backgrounds, puts him in better stead to take over the mantle of leadership in Ghana.
Speaking in Kumasi as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital some of the aspirants to the NPP flagbearership man ministries and departments with less than 100 workers and said with a workforce of over 6000 under him, he has the experience and managerial skills to move the development agenda of the country forward.Asked why he would not remain at Korle-Bu and continue to mend hearts, a feat he has accomplished with distinction over the years, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he has trained several personnel to perform such functions, adding that it was "better to leave the stage whilst the applause is loud."He lamented that Ghana, with a land mass of 239,000 square kilometers can only earn $3.3 billion a year as against $283 billion by Malaysia, which has a land mass of 697 square kilometers and said all this boils down to prudent management.Prof. Frimpong-Boateng disclosed that together with others such as Pastor Mensah Otabil, Onua Amoah, Colonel Jackson and others, they have acquired lands at Sawla, Wa, Pusiga, Techiman and Nkoranza for the cultivation of Jetropha for the production of biogas. He called for the devotion of more resources and attention to technological and scientific research as it is the only way Ghana can have her economic, scientific and technological breakthrough.Credit: The Statesman
