The Police in Kumasi on Thursday arrested a suspected hardened criminal on whose head a GH¢2000 reward had been placed for public information leading to his arrest.
The suspect who was believed to have committed multiple robberies in the Kumasi Metropolis and the Sunyani Municipality was arrested at his hide-out at “Race Course” in Kumasi, a notorious den of criminals.
Eric Alfred Zieme, 25, a native of Kusele near Nandom in the Upper West Region has confirmed having caused all the criminal acts he was initially suspected of when he confessed to have committed about 30 robberies in the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions.
The suspect on July 26, armed with an AK 47 riffle, robbed one George Addai, transport owner of Blue Banana Ventures at Kotwi near Kumasi of an amount of GH¢5,600.
At a press briefing in Kumasi on Friday Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Seth Oteng, Regional Deputy Commander of Police disclosed that the same person also on three separate occasions, also at gun point robbed Isaac Owusu-Ansah, Director of Owusu-Ansah Company Limited at Ohwim of a total of GH¢24,940.
Zieme also confessed to have been behind the GoCrest security Company robberies in which three staff were attacked and robbed of GHc48,000 whiles one was shot in the right thigh in the process.
Upon police interrogation, Zieme confessed to have invested the money into a supermarket complex, restaurant and a car washing bay at the race course.
The Police retrieved an unregistered Toyota Corolla, a Honda motor bike, two AK 47 assault riffles and one pump action gun among other things.
ACP Oteng commended the new trend of police cum civilian co-operation in the area of volunteering credible information to the police.Source: GNA
