A Severe water shortage has hit Ekumfi T.I. Alhmaddiyya Senior High School (SHS) in the Mfantseman East District of the Central region, compelling students to spend school hours in search of the commodity. The situation has forced school authorities to spend at least GH¢2,700 a week to purchase water from tankers. Mr Mohammed Ackonu, Head Master of the School made this known at a press briefing at Ekumfi Essakyire in the Central Region. He appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations and Ekumfi District Assembly to come to the aid of the school. According to the Headmaster, the only bole hole which serves the 1,486 population of the school has broken down. Mr Ackonu said the school is facing many challenges including inadequate accommodation for tutors, lack of classrooms block, fence wall and dormitories for boys and girls. He said about 90 per cent of the tutors commute from Winneba, Mankessim and Apam Junction to the school, a situation he said is impeding effective teaching and learning. He therefore appealed to government to release funds for the completion of two dormitory block started for the school.
