Rev Moses Pappoe, Director of the Metrology Department of the Ghana Standards Board (GSB), on Monday confirmed that water meters in the public domain met the required specification of the GSB."Although we have not procured our own systems to check, our routine checks at the meter shop showed that gauging systems and measurement were okay and up to standard," he told journalists during a routine check by management of GSB at Aqua Vitens Rand Limited head office in Accra to inspect water meters.He said his outfit had already carried out calibration of the system and the visit was to ensure that industrial measurement with regard to water meters were accurate.The meter shop does repair as well as recalibration of meters to serve the needs of the public.Mr Stanley Mantey, Communications Manager, Aqua Vitens, debunked the idea that meters in the systems were second hand adding, "All meters from local and foreign partners are recalibrated to suit the Ghanaian standards.”He said their parent company in Holland had provided them with over 5,000 water meters to replace worn-out meters in the system.He said the meter shop currently had two branches in Western and Ashanti regions to cater for the other regions.Mr Noble Bediako, Meter Manager, Aqua Vitens, called on the public not to tamper with water meters as they were expensive to replace.Source: GNA
