A lawyer who was also a witness to the alleged assault on Daily Guide photo journalist at the Human Rights court premises, Thursday, says court officials are no longer safe in their own offices. Nii Akwei Amasa told Joy News’ Cyrus deGraft Johnson the lady photo journalist, Gifty Lawson was “badly manhandled” by agents of the BNI. Lawson attempted to take a photograph of DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda who had been brought to court over the controversial cocaine turned baking soda saga. But the BNI agents who led the suspect in and out of the court premises would not allow. According to Akwei Amasa the BNI agents “pounced on her” and “badly manhandled her.” “It is not fair to manhandle a woman like that,” he noted, adding the victim must take legal action against her aggressors. He said one of the agents brandished a weapon threatening to shoot another journalist who was trying to shield Gifty Lawson, lamenting, “We are not safe as officers of the court.” The Editor of the Daily Guide newspaper Fortune Alimi has condemned the action by the BNI agenst. So has the Ghana Journalists Association.
