The Ashanti regional secretariat of the governing New Patriotic Party has described as misplaced claims by some parliamentary aspirants that they are being sabotaged by the party in their attempt to pick nomination forms.
John Darko who is nursing the ambition to contest the Suame constituency, a seat held by the majority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu says the party has simply refused to make the forms available.
“I want to believe that someone is not doing his or her work well because the General Secretary was very clear. He has said it on several platforms that if anybody wants to pick up nomination forms, they should be given the forms. So I just don’t know whether someone is trying to frustrate my efforts or somebody just doesn’t want me to contest the election. The rules of our party are very clear…. Anybody who wants to contest in the party must be given the opportunity to do so.”
But Ashanti Regional Secretary Samuel Pyne says the party has isolated some nine constituencies for special attention hence the decision to hold on to the nomination forms.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to hold its parliamentary primaries in areas where it has sitting Members of Parliament (MP) on April 25, 2020.
The NPP has 169 sitting Members of Parliament out of the total 275 seats in the House.
