The management of Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited has apologised to its loyal commuters and the general public for the disruption in its services caused by a strike action by some of its workers in Kumasi."We wish to assure our loyal commuters and the general public that the Managing Director is currently in Kumasi at the head of a delegation to immediately resolve the issue and get the workers back to work," a statement issued by the MMT in Accra has said.The statement recalled that one of the points of a resolution dated June 23, 2007 submitted by the Local Union to management, demanded that the Traffic Officer in charge of Kumasi be removed because of what they termed "insulting behaviour of the Traffice Officer towards staff."On receiving the resolution it said management set in motion an investigation process into the matter to enable it to take a decision."No adverse findings have yet been made against the Traffic Officer in which case management has no justifiable cause to remove him."Furthermore, we are proud to state that the Traffic Officer’s performance has been remarkable", it said.Meanwhile, the statement said management and the local union in a Memorandum of Understanding issued after the Standing Joint Negotiating Committee stated that the issues raised in the resolution have been adequately addressed by both parties.The statement called on all workers to resume duty as efforts were being made to resolve the issue.Source: The Ghanaian Times
