The running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo for the December 2012 elections has taken a swipe at the government, accusing it of increasing the hardships of ordinary Ghanaians in spite of the enormous resources that it has had since 2009.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was addressing various communities in the Sisala East and West constituencies as part of the tour of the Upper West by the presidential candidate of the NPP.
Speaking at Gwollu, hometown of former President Hilla Limann in the Sisala West Constituency, Dr. Bawumia said “the evidence of a harder Ghana is not hard to find; those of us who go to the markets everyday experience it in the continuous rise in prices; youths looking for jobs experience the better Ghana in their search for non-existent jobs; farmers experience it everyday in the unavailability of fertilisers; those of us who pay school fees experience it in the continuous rise in school fees."
The NPP vice– presidential candidate noted that the last thing Ghanaians expected when the NDC was elected was to see a doubling of their hardships.
He stated that the current government has had access to more resources than any government in the history of the country. He cited the near doubling of the prices of our major exports like cocoa and gold on the international market as well as the proceeds from the oil industry to back his point. Besides, "this government in just three and half years has borrowed more money than all governments from Nkrumah to Kufuor put together."
He said that despite these huge inflows of resources, the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian continues to worsen. He noted that it was not totally surprising that these resources had not reflected in the lives of the Ghanaian, since the government was more focused on paying dubious judgment debts to self-confessed NDC financiers and cronies.
“With all these resources, we shouldn’t be having a harder Ghana; but have you in Welembele seen evidence of these resources in your lives?” Dr. Bawumia quizzed while speaking in Welembele, a town in the Sisala East Constituency. To which the people responded with a thunderous No!
Dr. Bawumia stated that it was time to change course and time to build a new Ghana which would ensure that resources are positively used to change the lives and living conditions of all Ghanaians.
He called on the people to vote massively for Nana Akufo–Addo as he was the man with the ideas and commitment to see Ghana develop and reduce the suffering of the Ghanaian people.
